Elite Joe Colborne Jersey The Mariners’ resilience puts them in good shape to contend for a wild-card spot as the season wears on (no one is going to catch the AL West-leading Astros, who have the best record in baseball). And soon, the team’s stars will begin returning from the DL. Hernandez, who’s been out with shoulder bursitis since late April, will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Tacoma. Iwakuma, a 16-game winner last season who hasn’t pitched since May 3 because of a shoulder issue, threw two innings in a simulated game Saturday.

Drew Smyly, acquired from Tampa Bay in a trade earlier this year, hasn’t played for the Mariners yet because of a flexor strain, but could be ready for action by late June.

Ender Inciarte had a pretty good day in the Braves’ 13-8 win over the Reds. The center fielder went 5-for-5 with a home run, five RBIs and two runs scored. Braves left fielder Danny Santana, who also put up some seriously crooked numbers (4-for-5, with a home run and three runs and RBIs) also gets a shout-out.

The Cardinals’ Luke Weaver (No. 38) doesn’t have an obvious path to a big league rotation spot, but he’s definitely the next man up in St. Louis if one of the current starters were to go down. Weaver struggled last year in a big league call-up, but he has the stuff and polish to be a successful No. 3 starter. He’s currently honing his craft at Triple-A, where he’s posted a 1.97 ERA and an impressive 29/4 K/BB in 32 innings.

Oakland shortstop prospect Franklin Barreto (No. 22 could get a look with the A’s if he continues to produce at Triple-A (.313/.359/.500 with six home runs). Barreto needs to improve his plate discipline, but he has plus bat speed, good raw strength and an ability to use the whole field. He probably won’t stick at shortstop but he profiles as an above-average offensive second baseman who will hit for moderate average and good power.

Counting Terrell Owens’ drops recklessly counts him out of Canton forever

The tipping point for Terrell Owens’ Hall of Fame chances was the drops chart.

Owens is never going to get into the Hall of Fame. That sealed it.

That really isn’t that extreme a reaction to that chart, slipped into Peter King’s weekly column at The MMQB on Monday, but tweeted out on its own.

No time will be wasted deciphering it, putting it into context or even mocking it that much. (In all fairness, Pro Football Talk mocked the entire “drops” debate flawlessly already.) Ironically, King in that item declared not only does Owens deserve to be in Canton, but drops are not a good reason to exclude him.

But that chart got out there for a full viewing, anyway.

And that has never been more clear than in the last 10 years, when the toll of playing this sport has hit home like it never has before. Every season that a player, Canton-worthy or not, comes out of it in one piece should be considered a miracle … not a testament to his endurance, inner strength or character. That’s patently unfair to everybody else facing the same risks.

The players are bigger, stronger and faster, the collisions harder, the rules more incomprehensible, the sport more unmanageable by refs, coaches, owners, commissioner and the players themselves.

The career-altering injuries, then, are more inevitable. That, and the conscious decisions to walk away while you still can, as Calvin Johnson and Marshawn Lynch did.

Every Hall of Fame voter should know this and act accordingly. From now on, at least. Because until this year, they did Davis a disservice.avalanche-002_501f67d731edd291-180x180

Doing that will require more cap space than what they currently project to have.

The Eagles had the biggest payroll in the NFL in 2016, which reflects in the lack of projected cap room next year. The team had a fast start but fell as the year went on and likely will look to upgrade their skill-position players to help quarterback Carson Wentz develop.

Doing that will require more cap space than what they currently project to have. Releasing Connor Barwin would save nearly $8 million, and one of their running backs would open up $4 million, which should be enough to make a run at some receivers.

Pro: Thomas, a 6-3, 271-pound defensive end, is rising up draft boards after an impressive season with the Cardinal. He had 24.5 sacks the last two seasons, including 14 in 2016. He was dominant in the Hyundai Sun Bowl victory against North Carolina.

Con: There aren’t a lot of cons to drafting Thomas, who appears to be a solid pro in the making despite just two full seasons at Stanford. That might be it. He might not be an instant-impact player in the NFL, and the same comparisons to Brown would be there again.

Pro: It likely wouldn’t cost the No. 1 pick, but the Browns could probably offer the No. 12 pick for Garoppolo, who reportedly has generated interest from multiple teams. If the Browns go here, that means Robert Griffin III’s days in Cleveland are numbered. Garoppolo has learned as a backup the last three seasons behind Tom Brady. Aaron Rodgers did just fine after three years behind Brett Favre.
Game Mens Mike Evans Jersey
Game Mens Demarcus Lawrence Jersey Con: Cleveland goes into another season with another quarterback and even more questions. What combination of draft picks would it take to get a backup quarterback? Would the No. 1 pick be involved somehow? Would the Browns really give all that up to the Patriots?

Super Bowl prop bets 2017: Most popular props for Super Bowl 51

Ah yes — Super Bowl prop bets. They’re the only reason people care about the length of a national anthem performance or how many times the president’s name is mentioned during a television broadcast.

The 2017 Super Bowl prop bets, for the game between the Patriots and Falcons, Lady Gaga’s halftime show, Luke Bryan’s anthem and more, don’t disappoint in ridiculousness.

During my early NFL management years, when I was as an assistant GM with the Vikings, our GM Mike Lynn often preached to me the necessity of keeping our very best players. Those players included Hall of Famers such as Fran Tarkenton and Alan Page, along with Pro Bowlers such as Chuck Foreman and Anthony Carter. The contract battles could be fierce, but the team held the greater leverage in those pre-free agency years, so the deals eventually got done.

As I took over as Vikings GM and the free agency/salary cap era emerged, it became more difficult to retain star players. I was able to re-sign Hall of Famers Cris Carter, Randall McDaniel, Chris Doleman and John Randle, but we eventually had to trade Doleman and Hall of Fame tackle Gary Zimmerman after contract disputes. While I couldn’t keep every star player, the hammer of the franchise tag was a good tool that helped me in my negotiations.

The tag is an odd plight for players, as they’re highly compensated but only guaranteed for one season. Berry, with the tag looming for a second straight year, is in the same boat as Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins. Both players surely find it hard to understand why they can’t get long-term deals at market value.

Hard feelings invariably fester as these situations unfold. At this juncture of their somewhat shaky relationship with Berry, the Chiefs simply need to follow the superstar theory.

Indians’ Mike Clevinger dominates MLB-best Astros

Womens Martin Maldonado Jersey If the Houston Astros are the best team in baseball this year no one told Mike Clevinger or the Cleveland Indians.

Just two of the runs he allowed over 2 1/3 innings were earned, but that stat can’t paper over his inability to pitch around poor defense. He allowed a missile of a home run to Albert Pujols, No. 599 of Pujols’ career, after an error by second baseman Jace Peterson. He allowed seven hits overall. His ERA is 6.99 after 11 starts; that’s more than double his ERA with the Mets last year. His record is 2-6 after Atlanta’s 9-3 defeat in Anaheim.

A few more of Big Sexy’s unsightly stats: 77 hits, 10 home runs and 15 walks allowed in 55 1/3 innings. For most pitchers, that walk total would be stellar; for Colon, it’s almost half the 32 passes he issued in 191 2/3 innings last year for New York.

Elite Jerick McKinnon Jersey He hasn’t lost his fastball; his average velocity is the same as it was in 2016 (87.9 mph, per Fangraphs). The homer to Pujols might offer a slight clue:

The 26-year-old starter didn’t allow a hit until the seventh inning and tossed a scoreless start on the way to a 3-0 victory for the Indians on Saturday.

Clevinger seemingly never threw a pitch above the knees and the Astros seldom made solid contact in just their 14th loss of the season.

Red Sox (27-23) at White Sox (24-26), 8:10 p.m. ET — Chris Sale (5-2, 2.34 ERA) will face his former team for the first time since a trade brought him to Boston in December. He’ll square off with fellow All-Star southpaw Jose Quintana (2-6, 4.82 ERA), who was part of the same rotation with Sale for five seasons.

Malik Jackson made 181 pet adoptions possible in Jacksonville by paying the fees

Like most of us, Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Malik Jackson loves good dogs (and cats). So Jackson took it upon himself to make the weekend of May 6-7 one of the biggest adoption weekends ever for the Jacksonville Humane Society.

The JHS partnered up with PetSmart Charities, as well as Jackson’s foundation, Malik’s Gifts. It was Jackson’s second go around with JHS after spending time with them in December, where children read books to the dogs.

Last year in May — following the selection of Keenan Reynolds by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2016 NFL draft — the Department of Defense updated a policy mandating two years of service for athletes to allow appointments in the reserve upon requests.

“A service member can request to be tendered an appointment in the reserve upon graduation and satisfy their commissioned service obligation in the Ready Reserve,” the new policy stated, via the Washington Post.

But the sudden reversal by the Air Force meant Robinette would not be able to serve his commitment as a reserve and wouldn’t be eligible to play in the NFL until 2019 — possibly crushing his chances at an NFL career. Not graduating Wednesday could be another strike at his hopes.

The last Air Force player to be drafted was defensive end Bryce Fisher, selected by the Buffalo Bills in the seventh round of the 1999 NFL draft. He returned to play for the Bills in 2001 before eventually developing into a starter for the St. Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks.

Drew Brees says NFL players still reluctant to report concussions

Gisele Bundchen’s revelation that her husband, Tom Brady, has suffered unreported concussions throughout his career, including last season, sparked talk around the league.

Drew Brees politely dodged the issue when asked about it Thursday on The Dan Patrick Show (I have no comment. That’s their business.). But when Patrick asked the Saints quarterback if he would tell his wife, Brittany, if he got dinged or got his bell rung during a game, Brees didn’t hesitate.

We have yet to see what Lynch will look like back on the football field, but there’s no question his fun side is as sharp as ever.

Gilmore gives New England options at both corners, with Malcolm Butler in line for an expensive extension as a restricted free agent and Logan Ryan already unrestricted. If they stand pat, it would be quite a strong duo of Butler shutting down and Gilmore making big plays on the ball.

Brock Osweiler disaster a lesson for all NFL teams, not just Texans

Bruce Irvin Womens Jersey A year ago, Brock Osweiler was in high demand during NFL free agency despite only seven career starts. The quarterback rejected a starting position with the Super Bowl-champion Broncos to sign a four-year, $72 million contract ($37 million guaranteed) with the Texans.

What a difference a year makes for the NFL’s Underachiever of the Year.

A total of 119 players have been elected by the BBWAA and the other 195 Hall of Famers were elected through various veterans-type committees. Of those 195, 35 are executives, 23 are managers and 10 are umpires, which means 127 players have been elected through secondary means. Lots of smart baseball people will try and convince you that matters.

I wanted to know what the Hall of Fame thought about all this, so I emailed Jon Shestakofsky, the Vice President of Communications and Education at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. This is what I asked him: Does the Hall of Fame acknowledge any difference between players elected by the BBWAA and players elected through any of the other various committees? If so, how is that acknowledged? And, if not, why isn’t it acknowledged?

Shestakofsky’s response: Each of the 314 plaques in Cooperstown represent members of the same elite fraternity — the National Baseball Hall of Fame. From Induction Ceremonies to how the plaques read and are displayed, those elected via the BBWAA ballot or any other committees receive the same treatment once they are selected. In short, all Hall of Famers are created equal.

NFL free agency: Jaguars make big moves to bolster defense

The Jaguars had over $73 million in available salary cap space and they’re not letting it go to waste.

Limited Mens Will Fuller Jersey Jacksonville was one of the more aggressive teams as NFL free agency began, landing two of the biggest defensive prizes.

The Jaguars signed defensive lineman Calais Campbell from the Cardinals with a four-year contract worth $60 million and former Texans cornerback A.J. Bouye to a five-year, $67.5 million contract with $26 million guaranteed. They also inked safety Barry Church to a four-year deal worth $26 million.

Adding Campbell gives the Jaguars an impressive defensive front, on paper. He joined a group that already includes Abry Jones, Dante Fowler Jr., and Malik Jackson, who was the big free-agent acquisition last year when the Jaguars signed him away from the Broncos. The Jaguars also expect big things from defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, who had eight sacks last year after getting selected in the third round of last year’s draft.

Jacksonville could also re-sign defensive lineman Tyson Alualu, the team’s first-round pick in 2010, for added depth after releasing defensive tackle Sen’Derrick Marks.

McCown actually deserves congratulations and praise for continuing to find work. He’s not signing himself, after all. The Jets did this willingly. The other quarterbacks they considered (and apparently not considered) are no secret.

Their track record on this happens to be epically bad. Remember, it was a year ago that they knew the final piece of their playoff puzzle was Fitzpatrick, and they waited him out the entire offseason and ended up handing him $12 million, then watched him become the exact Ryan Fitzpatrick the rest of the league knew he would become.

Lions’ do-it-all Hall of Famer Yale Lary dies at 86

Few players in NFL history were as effectively versatile as Yale Lary, the Pro Football Hall of Famer and Detroit Lions legend who died Friday at age 86.

Over the course of an 11-season career, Lary helped the Lions win three of their four all-time NFL championships while serving as a defensive back, punter and return man. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1979.

Lary recorded 50 interceptions in his career, picking off at least two passes every year from 1952-64 — except for the 1954 and 1955 seasons, which he missed while serving in the U.S. Army.

He took two of those picks back for touchdowns and also scored three career touchdowns on punt returns, serving as the Lions’ primary returner for six seasons.

When he wasn’t bringing back punts, he was delivering them, averaging 44.3 yards over his career and three times leading the NFL in yards per punt.

Team owner Jerry Jones was quick to shoot down the trade rumors on Friday, saying the report did not come from anyone inside the organization and that Scandrick is a big part of the team’s plans.

Jerry Jones on Orlando Scandrick: “He did not hear that from anybody associated with the Cowboys. We have no intention at all.”

Dallas took Michigan defensive end Taco Charlton in the first round, then picked up a pair of corners in Colorado’s Chidobe Awuzie and Michigan’s Jourdan Lewis on Friday.

Scandrick, 30, is by far the most experienced corner on the team, as Awuzie, Lewis and 2016 sixth-rounder Anthony Brown have a year of experience or less. It wouldn’t seem wise to trade Scandrick now but rather wait before the final year of his contract when the team can get out of the deal for just $1.6 million in dead money while creating $4 million in cap space, according to CBS Sports.nike_chargers_221
