Dwyane Wade confirmed before Thursday’s game that he received Pat Riley’s email

A hard foul, the kind that sends previously functional pickup runs into a shouty standoff death spiral. A 5-foot cushion on the perimeter, with overt disrespect masked as pity. Taunts of the printable — He’s soft, let him shoot — and unprintable variety. An edict delivered as a matter of fact: Freshmen — all freshman — are required to carry the upperclassmen’s bags.

This is The Test. Or parts of it, anyway. Probably.

It’s a tricky, shifty thing, this Mike Morgan Authentic Jersey test — tough to define in concrete terms. It’s not, technically speaking, an exam — though it also kind of is. There are no guaranteed questions and no sure answers. Even the name is informal. You can be “tested,” but you can also be “challenged.” You don’t necessarily pass the test so much as “react correctly,” as Kansas senior Landen Lucas said, with some care. Correct reaction requires fluency in a social language only elite athletes speak.

Dwyane Wade confirmed before Thursday’s game that he received Pat Riley’s email — but he hadn’t read it yet.

“Worst basketball game I ever played in Nick Vannett Authentic Jersey my life,” Wade said with a chuckle. “I couldn’t wait until it was over. It’s just weird. You’re going against guys — it just seemed like we were just playing in the playoffs together.

“Just a good environment though, man. The fans were great. I appreciate the ovation, the cheers. The things that they were saying, I appreciate it all. But the game itself was weird.”

Wade, who spent 13 seasons in Miami, spoke openly in recent days about how much he wanted to win this game. It marked the Bulls’ only regular-season appearance in Miami. After struggling to find his rhythm throughout the night, Wade calmly drained two free throws with 13.7 seconds left that helped secure the Bulls’ victory. His teammates and coaches said they were happy he was able to earn a victory against his old team.

“He’s so calm about it,” said Bulls All-Star swingman Jimmy Butler. “Nothing gets to him. He came in here to do a job, and he got it done. You know, emotions are rushing, but he’s a professional, Hall of Famer, but he doesn’t show it. He goes out there and competes, plays basketball the right way and leads us to victories. That’s what you ask from him each and every day, and he brings it each and every day, and I’m glad we got this one for him.”

When James went to Miami in 2010, he saw his shot total fall by two to three per game

Over the first seven years of his career, James shot just 31 percent on shots from 10 to 15 feet and 36 percent on those from 16 feet to the 3-point line. Over the past seven seasons, he boosted that to 40 percent from 10-15 feet and 41 percent on the longer jumpers. Though it’s a battle he still fights — including last season as his shooting numbers took a hit — James worked to refine his balance so he has a repeatable form. He increased his field goal percentage for seven straight seasons, topping out at 57 percent in 2013-14.

In the 2006-07 season, James shot just 39 percent on post-up plays, averaging 1.9 of them per game. In those days James would often not fight for position in the post and allow himself to be pushed away from the hoop — even by smaller defenders. By 2009-10 he was hitting 57 percent of his post-up shots, though he was still averaging fewer than two per game. In 2013-14, James led the league in post-up shooting at 56 percent and had boosted his numbers to four chances per game.

Jones pointed out then — and again Andre Roberts Authentic Womens Jersey Tuesday — that Beckham and Green were very different players. He also said that he’d take Green, who currently leads the league in receiving yards per game, over any receiver in the league.

“When you talk about A.J. and you talk Beckham, it’s two different players,” Jones said Tuesday. “I’m not taking nothing away from Beckham, but I’m definitely not going to take nothing away from 18.”

Jones singled out Beckham for his ability to generate yards after the catch.

“You have to make sure you tackle him,” Jones said. “He’s a big chunk yard after the catch [receiver]. He runs good routes. He can stretch the field. He’s a Andrew Quarless Authentic Womens Jersey complete receiver.”

Tackling well is something the Bengals haven’t exactly done consistently this season. And while they’re limited in how much they can actually tackle in practice, Jones noted they’d be working on fixing that particular part of their game this week.

“Oh, we’ll be practicing it,” Jones said. “We’ll be practicing it. You can bet that.”

Grabbing back the spotlight from new Golden State star Kevin Durant

Grabbing back the spotlight from new Golden State star Kevin Durant, Curry raised his right arm and pumped his chest all night, howling and pointing as one shot fell after another. He went 16 for 26 overall in his first 40-point performance after leading the NBA with 13 last season.

Warriors fans enjoyed every minute of it, chanting “M-V-P! M-V-P!”

Wade said he still keeps an eye on how the Heat are doing. He wants his former teammates to succeed, just not when he is playing against them.

“I definitely watch when I get an opportunity to watch Bobby Wagner Jersey them play,” Wade said. “One, because it’s a lot of my young guys over there. I want to see them succeed. I want to see Tyler [Johnson] and Justise [Winslow] and all those guys take that next step. I want to see how Hassan [Whiteside] is going to respond to everyone saying this and that about him since he got paid. So I watch that as someone who knows them, then I watch the game as a fan and I watch it as a competitor. I watch it so many different ways.

“I’m not wishing nothing bad on that organization. I have nothing but love for everybody in that organization. And I want them to be successful, just as we all say, just not when they play the Bulls. But besides that I want them to be successful.”

Wade sounded truly appreciative of how fans embraced him during Bradley Sowell Jersey his time in Miami. It should make for one of the most interesting scenes in the NBA this year when he is introduced for the first time as a Bull in Miami.

“My message to them is what it’s been all summer: Thank you,” Wade said. “Thank you for supporting me in the great times. Thank you for supporting me in the bad times for 13 years. On and off the court. Allowing me to have my privacy away from the game and supporting me in everything I did in the community. They supported me when I did good in the season, they supported me when I played bad. The biggest word I can say to them is that I appreciate it and just thank them.”

Tom Brady can’t win the MVP because he cheated, says bitter ex-Patriots employee Reggie Wayne

Since Tom Brady returned from his four-game suspension to start the season, he’s played flawlessly. Still, former NFL wide receiver Reggie Wayne said Brady shouldn’t be considered for MVP because of DeflateGate.

Wayne, now an analyst with NFL Network, said Andre Reed Authentic Womens Jersey Brady should not be named MVP, no matter what his level of play is this season.

Can Brady win MVP this season?

— NFL Total Access (@NFLTotalAccess) November 1, 2016

Brady has completed 73.1 percent of his passes over four games for an average of 329.8 yards per game, 12 touchdowns, and no interceptions. The Patriots are 4-0 since his return. If he continues to play at this level, or close to it, it’s difficult to imagine anyone but Brady being named MVP at the end of the season.

Wayne spent his entire 14-season career with the Indianapolis Colts. After the Colts announced they would not re-sign him prior to the 2015 season, Wayne signed a one-year contract with the Patriots.

His time in New England was brief. Wayne asked to be released by the team before the start of the regular season, and the Patriots obliged.

From source close to Wayne “asked for release, work environment to tough….not fun”

— Scott Zolak (@scottzolak) September 5, 2015
Wayne sat out the 2015 season and then announced his retirement.

The Colts and Patriots have a longtime rivalry that was at its peak at the height of Wayne’s career, when Peyton Manning and Tom Brady were pitted against each other. The Colts got knocked out of the playoffs three times by Brady and the Patriots during Wayne’s career.

The title of this video is 14 Minutes of Pissed Off Goalies and that is an accurate and succinct description. It’s got it all: NHL, minor league, international hockey and both on-and-off ice fun, too. Tuukka Rask his balance, Patrick his mind and the great soundbite of calling Milan Lucic a piece of are all included. For whatever reason, it’s incredibly easy to laugh at goalies-a lot of the schadenfreude probably has to David Parry Authentic Womens Jersey do with all the pads and gear making them look like Weebles-so please do enjoy 14 minutes of pissed off goalies.

The NFL, NBA and NHL have deals with Sportradar

Whether in three years, five or a full decade, the normalization process that leads America down a path toward nationwide regulated sports betting is expected to be complete. With it, passive fans rooting for a favorite team or player will increasingly be replaced by active sports consumers with a financial stake in the action. Technological changes, evolving Eric Staal Jersey societal views and increased media coverage have contributed to wider acceptance of sports betting.

Such conclusions stand in sharp contrast to statements like those made by former U.S. Senator and New York Knicks player Bill Bradley, the chief supporter of PASPA during Congressional hearings in 1991.

“Athletes are not roulette chips, but sports gambling treats them as such,” wrote Bradley in a 1992 academic article. “If the dangers of state sponsored sports betting are not confronted, the character of sports and youngsters’ view of them James Wisniewski Jersey could be seriously threatened.”

Now, NBA players, led by their union, are looking at sports betting legalization as a commercial opportunity.

Kick the extra point when down nine to make it a one-score game.

Let’s flip that scenario and say the Browns kick the extra point first to go down 28-20 with 2:10 left. Then, let’s say that the same stuff happens. The Browns recover the onside kick, score another touchdown, and then go for two and fail. They’re in the same situation. They’re down 28-26, but now, it’s with 30 seconds to go. There is no time left to overcome their failed two-point play.

But that argument has now been somewhat flipped recently. As discussed in part 1 of this series, professional sports leagues are increasingly of the belief that a regulated sports betting market that allows wagers to be transparently tracked would help protect the integrity of their games, not hurt it.

This is consistent with recent partnerships with big data companies by the professional sports leagues, representing a profound shift in the leagues’ position on line monitoring, the task of tracking gambling data in an attempt to identify unusual moves or unnatural money.

The NFL, NBA and NHL have deals with Sportradar, a Switzerland-based conglomerate that is the parent company of Betradar, a major player in the global sports betting industry, and Major League Baseball has partnered with Genius Sports, a multi-faceted gambling data firm located in London. Even the NCAA has a commercial affiliation with Sportradar, with the Pac-12 conference using the services of CG Analytics, a subsidiary of a prominent Nevada sportsbook.

“The issue of sports integrity is something that always comes up … Anywhere there’s big money there [are] going to be scandals. They’re just people, and people do things wrong all the time in every industry.”

“The issue of sports integrity is something that always comes up,” said Michelle Minton, consumer policy specialist who has opined on sports betting legalization as part of the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a Libertarian think tank. “The argument is if we legalize sports gambling, the games will be rigged, people will be taking dives, et cetera. I think that’s a red herring argument. I would make the argument that it’s less likely to cause match-fixing.”

The AFC West is wide open for the first time since 2011

The Denver Broncos are coming off of a Super Bowl 50 victory, and they have a number of questions that need to be resolved in training camp, not the least of which is who will take over under center for Peyton Manning. For the Chiefs, quarterback isn’t a question, but ensuring Jamaal Charles is at full strength for the season certainly is.

Despite promises that Kelly is in town Ty Sambrailo Authentic Womens Jersey to coach and nothing else, the 49ers used a first-round pick on one of his former players, defensive end DeForest Buckner. It wasn’t a bad pick by any stretch. Buckner and his former Oregon teammate Arik Armstead could form one of the more formidable defensive fronts in the league.

The quarterback battle between Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick will be the highlight of training camp, provided the latter is healthy enough. Kaepernick was awarded a big contract a couple years ago, but regressed to the point of being benched in favor of Gabbert last season. Kelly says either one has a chance at starting in 2016.

The loss of running back Marshawn Lynch Vance Walker Authentic Womens Jersey wasn’t surprising, but it was still a huge blow when the team’s rushing leader for four of the past five seasons elected to retire. Seattle is hoping that Thomas Rawls, an undrafted free agent who came on strong in 2015 with 830 yards, will be sufficiently recovered from a broken ankle for the start of the season. He’s not going to play much during the preseason, opening the doors for rookie C.J. Prosise to cement his place on the roster, maybe even usurp Rawls.

The Seahawks are also closely monitoring the recovery of tight end Jimmy Graham, who suffered a torn patellar tendon last season. Graham is expected to be ready for the regular season, but he still hasn’t looked like the dominant tight end he was with the New Orleans Saints.

Russell Wilson has developed a strong rapport with recently extended receiver Doug Baldwin. A breakout season at receiver from Tyler Lockett — who’s already cemented his status as one of the game’s best return men — will make Seattle’s offense that much more potent.

Last year, the Panthers finished the regular season 15-1 and made it all the way to the Super Bowl despite missing No. 1 receiver Kelvin Benjamin, who landed on injured reserve with a knee injury he suffered during training camp last season. Getting Benjamin back is huge for the Panthers and reigning MVP Cam Newton. Devin Funchess also impressed during OTAs and he has an opportunity to earn more minutes with his performance in training camp and the preseason.

Both Benjamin and cornerback Bene Benwikere are fully healthy and ready to go for the start of training camp. Running back Jonathan Stewart is also expected to be a full go from training camp from the leg injury he suffered in Super Bowl 50, but he may be experiencing some lingering issues.

The Saints defense has been a problem for the team over the past few seasons, and this year they’re heading into training camp with a new defensive coordinator, Dennis Allen, and several new faces on that side of the ball. Defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins, drafted by the Saints with the 14th overall pick in 2016, fills a huge need, and the addition of Vonn Bell in the defensive backfield should also help.

The run game is a huge question mark, too, and balancing the offense is a priority for the Saints. They’re hoping that C.J. Spiller will live up to the expectations they had when he signed with the Saints. Tim Hightower showed flashes late last season that suggest he can still contribute, and there’s also rookie running back Daniel Lasco, a lifelong Saints fan who would love to have a chance to help the team win.

Another key addition for New Orleans this offseason was free agent tight end Coby Fleener. Reports out of minicamp and OTAs suggested that Fleener and Drew Brees have established excellent chemistry, and the way Brees worked with Benjamin Watson last season might mean that Fleener is in for a breakout year.

The Bucs fired Lovie Smith following the 2015 season, promoting former offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter into the head coach position. Koetter brought in his former boss in Atlanta, Mike Smith, to take over as Tampa Bay’s defensive coordinator, and with a few new faces on defense, fans should pay close attention to how this side of the ball shapes up during training camp.

Seahawks sign veteran guard Jahri Evans

The Seattle Seahawks announced Saturday that they signed guard Jahri Evans. The veteran lineman, who will turn 33 in late August, refused to take a pay cut and was released by the New Orleans Saints in early February.

“I have to say that $2,000 signing Terrell McClain Jersey bonus I got didn’t last long, but I ended up gaining a lot more than money,” Dungy said.

His head coach in Pittsburgh, Chuck Noll, taught players about life being about more than football. It was a value Dungy would carry with him and apply to his life as a coach. His Steelers teammate, Donnie Shell, took Dungy under his wing and taught him so much as he converted from to Tony Dorsett Jersey the safety position, but Shell also helped Dungy learn about being a Christian and a husband.

His first head coaching job came in 1996 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the following season, the team broke a long playoff drought.

“We made the playoffs for the first time in 15 years, and the Bucs fans went crazy over their team,” Dungy said. “And those fans remain special to me to this day.”

Next up for Dungy was Indianapolis, where his team would face off against Lovie Smith’s Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI and win.

“We had a lot of fun over those next seven years, highlighted by that Super Bowl XLI victory,” Dungy said.

Dungy thanked Colts owner Jim Irsay and general manager Bill Polian for their warm welcome and making Indianapolis feel like home for him and his family.

“I’d like to thank you big time, Jim and Bill and the Colts’ fans,” Dungy said. “You made us feel like native Hoosiers, and our family loves you.”

Of course, Dungy has coached a number of talented players, including fellow 2016 Hall of Fame inductee Marvin Harrison. Many of his former players were on hand to support him, and Dungy asked them to stand and be recognized.

“You taught us how to be teammates and you taught us how to be men, but the most important thing is you taught us about fatherhood,” Harrison said of Dungy. “I think that’s more important than anything that a head coach or any coach could ever tell his players, so I want to thank you for that.”

Seattle CB Jeremy Lane stands behind Colin Kaepernick and sits during national anthem

As the nation continues to debate the validity and wisdom of Colin Kaepernick’s decision to remain seated during the national anthem, other players are also choosing to not stand. On Thursday night, before Haloti Ngata Jersey Seattle prepared to face the Raiders in Oakland, Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane remained seated on the bench during the anthem.

“I wasn’t trying to say anything. Just standing behind Kaepernick,” Lane said following the game.

He said that he didn’t have Jake Rudock Jersey relationship with Kaepernick, but “I just like what he’s doing.”

Lane also will continue to the protest, saying he will “keep on doing it until I feel like justice is being served.”

Carson Wentz was “lying in the middle of a cornfield, hunting” when he got the call to tell him he was the Eagles starter

— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) September 5, 2016
The Eagles’ quarterback depth chart was shaken up Saturday when they traded Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for two draft picks –– including a 2017 first-round selection. It was a bizarre offseason for Bradford, who signed a two-year, $36 million extension with $22 million guaranteed less than 10 days before the Eagles inked Chase Daniel to a three-year deal. Philly then traded a bevy of draft picks, including their 2016 and 2017 first round selections, to move up and draft Wentz.

Bradford, 28, reportedly demanded a trade after Wentz was drafted and missed two weeks of voluntary workouts. But he ended the saddest holdout ever in early May, pledging his commitment to the organization.

When Bradford was dealt, it was assumed Daniel would take over the No. 1 job. According to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo, the 29-year-old veteran was “extremely upset” last weekend when he was first informed of the decision to start Wentz. Daniel has only started two games in six NFL seasons, completing 50 of 77 passes for 464 yards and one touchdown as well as one interception. He played under Doug Pederson for three years while he was the offensive coordinator in Kansas City.

The Eagles’ sudden change of heart isn’t all that surprising, given the movement towards starting young quarterbacks in their rookie seasons. Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota, the No. 1 and No. 2 picks in last year’s draft, both started Week 1.

Todd Gurley and Tavon Austin didn’t play last night, but Goff’s struggles have come with the starters as well as the backups. He finished the preseason 22 for 49 with a 45 percent completion rate, 232 yards, a woeful 4.7 yards per attempt, two touchdowns, two interceptions and a 55.8 rating.

But don’t worry, said Fisher.

Josh McCown briefly leaves Ravens game with left shoulder injury

Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh McCown left Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens with a left shoulder injury. McCown left the game late in the first quarter and Kyle Emanuel Jersey departed for the locker room under his own power. Immediately after he left the field, Cody Kessler began warming up.

Brees believes he can play for a few more years in the league and if that turns out to be the case, he could wind up ending his career with more yards than any other quarterback. By LaDainian Tomlinson Jersey passing Marino, Brees moved into third all-time in NFL history. He is still quite far from Brett Favre (71,838) in second and Peyton Manning (71,940) in first. Brees started off his 16th season in the league on a heater, torching the Oakland Raiders for 423 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-34 loss.

But Brees has eclipsed 5,000 yards in a season four times in his career, and has put up at least 4,800 yards twice more on top of that. He only needs to go for a couple more seasons to pass both Favre and Manning to finish at the top of the NFL, but of course, a lot can happen to an aging quarterback in that time.

Brees signed a contract extension with the Saints that included $44 million in guarantees prior to the regular season opener. It will only keep him with the team through 2017 but strictly speaking, those two years at his normal rate put him right in the range of Favre and Manning.

A Super Bowl-winning quarterback, Brees has been named to nine Pro Bowls and has been an All-Pro player four times, three of them on the first team. He has been named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year twice and has been the league’s passing yardage leader six times and passing touchdowns leader four times.

Demaryius Thomas: The Broncos are expecting Thomas to play against the Indianapolis Colts despite suffering a hip injury in the season-opener against the Carolina Panthers. The star wideout was reportedly grabbing his hip and “grimacing” during practice this week.
