Kansas City Chiefs

It’s been a good past few days for Carson Wentz.

The Eagles quarterback, who was sidelined at the Super Bowl because of an ACL tear, proposed to his girlfriend and proudly proclaimed, “Now Maddie and I both got us a ring.”

Given Belichick’s pass-happy Super Bowl teams with quarterback Tom Brady, it’s easy to forget he made his bones as a defensive wizard. Some of the best parts of this documentary chronicle exactly how Belichick earned his wunderkind reputation in the 1980s and ’90s.

In the 1986 NFL playoffs, the Giants were set to face Joe Montana’s 49ers, winners of two Super Bowls in five years. Belichick strongly recommended the Giants play man-to-man pass defense against Montana, Jerry Rice and Co., instead of their usual zone coverage. The result was a 49-3 beatdown of the 49ers that catapulted the Giants to the NFC championship game and an eventual Super Bowl 21 victory over John Elway’s Broncos.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has since stood by his decision without divulging the reasoning behind Butler’s omission.

Speaking after the game Butler said the Patriots “gave up on me.”

In a statement posted on Twitter and Instagram, Butler sought to clear up the facts.

“During my four-year career with the Patriots I have always given it everything I have to play at a high level and would never do anything to hurt my teams’ chances of winning a game, including this year’s Super Bowl, where I visited with my family every night,” he wrote. “During Super Bowl week I never attended any concert, missed curfew or participated [in] any of the ridiculous activities being reported. They are not only false, but hurtful, to me and my family.

“I wanted to win more,” said Rosen, who was 6-5 in the games he did start last year. “To be honest, I really didn’t accomplish a lot of the goals that I set out to do, which was really frustrating. All of the individual stuff kind of comes along with team

Clippers’ Patrick Beverley has surgery on right knee

LA Clippers starting point guard Patrick Beverley underwent surgery on his right knee Wednesday, league sources tell ESPN.

Danny Woodhead was back in the mix against the Packers on Sunday. It was his first appearance since the Ravens’ first drive of the 2017 season. Woodhead played 13 snaps (12 were pass plays) and was limited to one carry for 2 yards and five catches on six targets for 21 yards. Though the stat line is far from inspiring, keep in mind it was his first game back and the game script was very much not in his favor (the Ravens won 23-0). Woodhead’s role will expand at the expense of Javorius Allen (10 snaps played in Week 11) and Alex Collins (36). Woodhead is a risky flex play against Houston this weekend.

Davis opted to undergo season-ending groin surgery Wednesday and had been the subject of trade talks ahead of the NFL trade deadline last Tuesday. The two-time Pro Bowl player has struggled amid various injuries this season, missing the first three games with a hamstring injury and recording just 16 tackles with two passes defended in five games played.

Davis was also held out of Sunday’s win over the Texans for a what the team announced as a non-injury related issue. He wasn’t pleased with the way this week’s move was handled and said he felt more like he was benched than given time to heal.

“It should be more about the respect,” Davis said. “I’m a professional. I’ve been in (the league) long enough. When I look at the situation, I feel like there was no respect. Knowing Chuck (Pagano), I figured it would come from him. It really bothered me.”

Davis, 29, was set to become a free agent at the end of the season after signing a four-year contract worth $36 million with Indianapolis. He had been with the Colts since 2012 after the Dolphins originally selected him with the No. 25 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.nationals_002

The Cavs have Monday off and will spend the evening together at James’ annual Halloween party.

“I know Brad is not happy about what Chase did to Brad,” Gustafson said. “I’m sure he’s not. And I’m sure the team’s not. But at the end of the day, he didn’t wreck him.”

Elliott has a tough road ahead, as he is eighth in the standings and 26 points behind the cutoff. The good news? He has been running well enough to win races lately, and a win in the next two weeks is not out of the question.

Indeed, the Cavs’ bench outscored New York’s reserves 30-13, led by 13 points from Kyle Korver and six points and five assists from Dwyane Wade, but even the Cavs’ substitutes suffered a setback, with Iman Shumpert missing the game because of right knee soreness.

“I know everyone here cares,” Korver said. “Everyone here works incredibly hard on a daily basis. Everyone loves the game. We’re just not putting it together on the court. As five guys, we’re not in sync.”

The Cavs have Monday off and will spend the evening together at James’ annual Halloween party.

A few days before the beginning of the 2016 season, there was a report that Luck was dealing with “some labrum fraying” and the Colts were trying to dial back his throwing reps in practice.

But the Dodgers tied the score in the seventh. Bellinger pointed skyward when reaching second standing up on his opposite-field hit. He clapped both hands above his head, said “It’s a miracle!” and pointed for the ball to be saved.

Los Angeles had been 1 for 17 with runners in scoring position before Forsythe’s hit.

Making only his second appearance since Sept. 26, Wood accomplished a feat that eluded Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, Orel Hershiser and other Dodgers pitching greats. In the team’s 109th World Series game, Wood became the first Dodgers pitcher to hold an opponent hitless through five innings.

Patriots vs. Dolphins odds: New England a large favorite at Miami to close out regular season

The New England Patriots are 7-0 straight up and 6-1 against the spread on the road this season. With one more road win this Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, the Patriots would secure home field throughout the postseason.

New England is a 9.5-point road favorite at sportsbooks monitored by The Patriots are 10-3 SU in their last 13 games against the Dolphins.

The Patriots have been on cruise control on offense since the return of Tom Brady, boasting a 10-1 SU and 9-2 ATS record over their last 11 games. But Brady isn’t the only reason that the Patriots are excelling; the team ranks eighth in the NFL in rushing with 116.8 yards per game and best in the NFL in scoring defense allowing only 15.7 points per game. With New England playing so well at every level, home field throughout the playoffs would certainly strike fear into the rest of the conference.

In New England’s last 21 games as a betting favorite of a touchdown or more, the Patriots are 18-3 SU and 12-6-3 ATS per the OddsShark NFL Database.

First off, if you’re reading this, you’re probably still alive in your Survivor League. Take a moment and pat yourself on the back. Getting to Week 17 is no easy feat. And if you still have Seattle or New England available in your league, stop patting and start popping — the champagne, that is. You are going to win your league.

And if you don’t have one of those two sure things, the key to ultimate survival is investing in those teams who are still invested in their seasons. Tampa Bay, Washington, Oakland, Green Bay, and Detroit immediately come to mind as teams with something important still to play for. Of that group, I would be looking at Tampa Bay and Oakland first because their opponents are at the opposite end of the spectrum.

Teams that reach the Super Bowl one year often struggle mightily the next, and Denver and Carolina were no exceptions in 2016. Check the news this week, as it’s likely both teams could sit key members on both sides of the ball, making the road to victory even smoother for the Bucs and Raiders.

The Timberwolves cannot figure out the 3rd quarter

The Minnesota Timberwolves’ 3-7 record would look a whole lot different if it weren’t for the third quarter. Minnesota ranks second in both first- and second-quarter net rating, a stat that measures a team’s point differential per 100 possessions.

However, the Wolves have completely fallen apart in the third. Minnesota ranks last in the NBA with -33.1 third-quarter net rating. This means that per 100 third-quarter possessions, the Timberwolves Doug McDermott Authentic Womens Jersey are being outscored by more than 33 points.

While the @Timberwolves have a 3-6 record and have underperformed…quarter by quarter net rating says they are a sleeping giant.

— Jim Petersen (@JimPeteHoops) November 15, 2016
And that was before the team’s 115-108 loss to the Hornets on Tuesday. The Wolves took a 12-point halftime lead, but Hornets opened the third on a 15-2 run and ended the quarter with a 21-4 surge. The Wolves rallied in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough. Again.

“I think every team’s gotta take a look at that. I think teams are getting tuned in a little bit, you know, politically and everything else. And give the players a great deal of credit on that. I’ve been really proud of our own players, but the players throughout the league, that they’re attune to what’s going on and stand up for their values. I think that’s impressive. You know, I’ve said it with our team. I think it’s really impressive. Particularly the fact that we have a really young team, and we’re talking guys in their 20s. And normally that kind of, no matter where you stand on the spectrum, normally that kind of social awareness and activism is something you come to later in life.

“I said this morning, I know where I was in the 20s. I think I was fairly aware E’Twaun Moore Authentic Womens Jersey but I was just consumed with myself in the 20s and what I wanted to do and everything else. And then you grow into more of an awareness. So, to see these young guys taking an interest — young, privileged guys, you know, got a lot of money and everything else — to take an interest with what’s going on and a real concern with their communities and the people who are less fortunate than they are. I think (that) speaks very well of them. And I’ve been very proud of our league under Adam (Silver)’s leadership in terms of social issues with the teams in our league and the players.”
Van Gundy was the first NBA coach to openly criticize the country for electing Trump.

Josh McCown briefly leaves Ravens game with left shoulder injury

Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh McCown left Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens with a left shoulder injury. McCown left the game late in the first quarter and Kyle Emanuel Jersey departed for the locker room under his own power. Immediately after he left the field, Cody Kessler began warming up.

Brees believes he can play for a few more years in the league and if that turns out to be the case, he could wind up ending his career with more yards than any other quarterback. By LaDainian Tomlinson Jersey passing Marino, Brees moved into third all-time in NFL history. He is still quite far from Brett Favre (71,838) in second and Peyton Manning (71,940) in first. Brees started off his 16th season in the league on a heater, torching the Oakland Raiders for 423 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-34 loss.

But Brees has eclipsed 5,000 yards in a season four times in his career, and has put up at least 4,800 yards twice more on top of that. He only needs to go for a couple more seasons to pass both Favre and Manning to finish at the top of the NFL, but of course, a lot can happen to an aging quarterback in that time.

Brees signed a contract extension with the Saints that included $44 million in guarantees prior to the regular season opener. It will only keep him with the team through 2017 but strictly speaking, those two years at his normal rate put him right in the range of Favre and Manning.

A Super Bowl-winning quarterback, Brees has been named to nine Pro Bowls and has been an All-Pro player four times, three of them on the first team. He has been named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year twice and has been the league’s passing yardage leader six times and passing touchdowns leader four times.

Demaryius Thomas: The Broncos are expecting Thomas to play against the Indianapolis Colts despite suffering a hip injury in the season-opener against the Carolina Panthers. The star wideout was reportedly grabbing his hip and “grimacing” during practice this week.

Jakub Voracek’s goal 10 seconds into overtime

Winnipeg, MB – Jakub Voracek’s goal 10 seconds into overtime finished off a furious comeback as the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Winnipeg Jets, 4, on. Giroux pressured DeMarcus Cousins Jersey Byfuglien on the forecheck and Voracek was there to take the loose puck and emerge from behind the net to beat Ondrej Pavelec with a quick wrister for the win. Philadelphia wasted no time getting on the board. Racing into the offensive zone on a 2-on-1, Giroux sent a saucer pass to Voracek, who wristed a shot past Pavelec just 46 seconds into the contest. Winnipeg responded with two goals a span of 55 seconds. Halischuk took a drop pass from Evander Kane and fired a shot from the high slot that beat Zepp for a tied game 6 into the first. The Arbor University baseball team continued to move the right direction after sweeping College on Tuesday at home Mid-Central College Conference play. The Cougars beat 3 and 8 to improve to 11 overall and 6 the MCC. the first game, Arbor scored all the runs it needed the second inning. Kolb drove two runs on a double, and Lumen High School graduate Maverick Nichols later drove Kolb on a single to right field. the second game, the Cougars led 3 before adding five more runs over the fourth and fifth innings. Blanco drove three runs with three hits, including two doubles, and Justin Forster and Brown each added two hits for Arbor. We pitched it very well and again played really good defense, Arbor coach Riggleman said of his team, which has committed just one error its last six. We had some timely hitting and we’ve been working on that, but it wasn’t easy day to play. There was a lot of bite the wind. Blanco picked up the win on the mound the first game, and Ferris picked up his third win of the the second game with seven strikeouts. The Cougars next play a doubleheader at 4 p.m. Thursday at Siena Heights before returning to MCC play with a doubleheader Saturday at. We’re getting our four starting pitchers solidified, and from offensive standpoint, we’re getting better as the year progresses, Riggleman said. My was that we would be able to make some headway this week, and this was a great start for us.

Texans DE J.J. Watt doesn’t plan to play any differently after surgery

HOUSTON — Though Texans defensive end J.J. Watt is recovering from back surgery, he insists nothing will change about the way he plays this season.

“I don’t think you are going to see any difference in games,” Watt said. “You wouldn’t notice anything different on game day and how I approach it. I am going to try and play every single play. I am going to play as hard as I possibly can.”

But though he will play just as hard, Watt said he will train smarter. “Where the change is going to come is in the offseason workouts, in the practice week and how I structure it and how I handle it,” Watt said. “I’ve gotten smarter. I’ve learned more about how to deal with my body and I’ve learned that I can’t just keep pounding, pounding, pounding and grinding through everything.

“I need to be smarter about what I do. I have a good plan in place now. I feel really good. Obviously, I have fresh legs right now. I’m going to carry this through the season.”

Watt, who is expected to play in the season opener Sunday against the Chicago Bears, said he feels like he can do “anything and everything” he is asked to do. “I feel no limitations whatsoever,” Watt said. “My body feels a lot better than it did the whole second half of last year. I’m a guy that likes to play every play. I’m a guy that likes to go out there and do whatever I can to help the team win. If they let me do that, great. If they put a play count on me, I’ll fight it as hard as I can.”

The turning point came during Super Bowl week in San Francisco, Watt said. Watt had been having a hard time getting out of bed and moving around. Watt said he and the Texans’ coordinator of rehabilitation, Roland Ramirez, had been working on an aggressive approach to his rehab, but he was not seeing a lot of progress.

“Ramirez and I had been working on something for a little while, and we’d been trying this method out and it really wasn’t showing a lot of results,” Watt said. “And one morning I woke up and all of a sudden, one thing I hadn’t been able to do since the surgery was lift my right leg straight up in the air. … And that morning I did it. I called him right away and sent him a video and I was like, ‘look.’ And so then I got up and tried some other stuff, and I actually did up-downs in the room, right there and I sent him a video of it. And I was like, dude, it worked.

“Everything that we did worked. And from that point forward, as soon as you get that little bit of light, it’s full steam ahead, and that’s what’s awesome.”

Watt had a second surgery in July to repair a herniated disk in his back. Watt said after going through that first surgery in January, the second procedure was much easier to get through.

Long-time Packer favorite John Kuhn signing with Saints

Kuhn, 33, was still living in Green Bay and said last month that he was hoping for a chance to play for either the Packers or another team.

“At this point in my career, I want to play because I still enjoy it, I still love it, I’m still in shape, I’m still ready to go,” Kuhn said last month in an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “I [just] want to be on a team that I think can go somewhere and do some damage.”

The Saints’ primary fullback, Austin Johnson, suffered an unspecified injury in practice this week.

The Saints had only one other fullback on their roster: undrafted rookie Sione Houma. Fullback is a part-time position in their offense, and New Orleans often uses a tight end in the role. The team went four weeks last season without a fullback on the active roster.

Atlanta Falcons

1-10 percent: Matt Ryan looked to be on a much better track earlier in his career by virtue of Atlanta’s steady success, but he has spent the past three seasons playing on a losing team while posting a 105 NY/A+, roughly what Matthew Stafford has done over the same time span. With three Pro Bowls by 30, Ryan really needs an MVP or a Super Bowl and a few big years to reopen his candidacy. … Desmond Trufant is one of the best cornerbacks in football nobody ever talks about, but he’s years away from making a real case.

Julio Jones has put everything together over the past couple of seasons and produced a pair of dominant campaigns. His two-year totals add up to 240 catches, 3,464 yards and 14 touchdowns. The 2015 season was his first as a first-team All-Pro, though, and the long-term concerns surrounding his surgically repaired foot make it difficult to project him as a star for another decade. On talent alone, Jones is there, but his longevity remains in question. 35 percent

Dwight Freeney appeared to have his Hall run peter out from 2012 to 2014, when he accrued just nine sacks over a three-year stretch with the Colts and Chargers after averaging 10 per season before that. It appeared his career was done, but Freeney suddenly returned to form with eight sacks in 11 games for the Cardinals last season. The Falcons desperately need an edge rusher, so if Freeney can maintain that form with Atlanta, another season or two of production might be enough to get the seven-time Pro Bowler over the hump.

The Dallas Cowboys are in the market for a backup quarterback.

When you have coach Jason Garrett taking snaps at age 50 in training camp, you know it’s bleak.

However, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that Dallas isn’t rushing to fill that veteran spot behind Tony Romo and the team will overturn every rock before making the best move.

With Brett Favre set to be enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend, it’s only natural that the man known for un-retiring would be asked if he might want to don the Cowboys’ No. 4 (sorry, Dak Prescott), right?
